Esce giovedì 14 dicembre "To play Standard(s) Amnesia" del Quintetto del vibrafonista Sergio Armaroli con il pianista americano Billy Lester. Una lettura dei classici "Standards" del jazz in una dimensione cameristica, fedele ai riferimenti stilistici di Lennie Tristano, Sal Mosca. Amnesia come esercizio di stile e di memoria: Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson e Red Norvo in memoriam. A completare la formazione, Claudio Guida (sax), Marcello Testa (contrabbasso), Nicola Stranieri (batteria).

The Sergio Armaroli Quintet presents with the american pianist Billy Lester a reportoire of Jazz Classical Standards as a tribute to the language of jazz in the history of american music in a chamber size about Lennie Tristano and Sal Mosca cool mood and feeling. Amnesia as a style and memory exercise: Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, Red Norvo in memoriam.

Pianist Billy Lester is a late-bloomer on that reticent branch of the jazz tree, the school of Lennie Tristano. An instinctively lyrical yet unfettered improviser who creates original compositions from variations on classic American songs' chord changes, Lester -- like his mentor Sal Mosca, one of Tristano's most acclaimed students -- has developed his art almost in private. A youthful prodigy who was playing by age four, the soft-spoken, self-questioning Lester has taught piano for decades in his hometown of Yonkers just beyond New York City's limits, and devotes himself to family life. But with children now grown, at age 52 he's felt the yen to gig, and finds the public stage surprisingly rewarding.

Sergio Armaroli is a contemporary music and improvisation specialist with significant experience in orchestral, jazz and experimental music. Armaroli combines the multiple disciplines of 21st Century percussion into a of a unity of experience he completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan and graduated in painting with full marks at the Conservatory “G. Verdi “in Milan, graduating in Electronic Music, Jazz and Percussion Instruments.
